Sankofa City Summer School 2018
As we anticipate the construction of the Obama Presidential Center, and increasing interest in the surrounding neighborhoods, this workshop brings South Side residents and University of Chicago students together to visualize desired futures for our community.
Sankofa City Summer School participants will develop prototypes for new technologies that embody rich local histories and reimagine public spaces, and that encompass app design, cryptocurrency and augmented reality with an AfroFuturist ethos. The Summer School aims to generate material benefits for the community through our designs.
Workshop led by legendary filmmaker, entrepreneur and activist Ben Caldwell (Kaos Network, Los Angeles) and UChicago film scholar Jacqueline Stewart (Gray Center; Cinema 53; South Side Home Movie Project).
*We invite you to apply while space is available.
Sankofa City Summer School is sponsored by the Gray Center for Arts and Inquiry, Logan Center for the Arts, and Cinema 53.
